The “GRANDE LACRIMA DI SAN MARZANO” is the crowning glory of the classic Primitivo. This interpretation of the southern Italian classic is heavier and significantly more opulent. A wine for spicy dishes.

Specifications in viticulture and vinification refine this wine from an Apulian pleasure wine to the top class of our Italian private bottlings: Grande Lacrima di San Marzano. The vines are not tied up, but trained in a bush-like manner at a height of 40 - 60 cm. By rigorously limiting the number of shoots, only a few individual grapes reach harvest time and therefore contain particularly high levels of sugar and extractive substances. The grapes are harvested exclusively by hand and macerated for 30 - 45 days after crushing. This gives the wine its remarkable depth and fullness. The final maturation in the cellar takes place over 12 months in American oak barrels.

Primitivo has been widely cultivated in Apulia for around 200 years. However, the first vines were brought to the Italians by the Phoenicians around 4000 years ago. In 1999, a genetic test confirmed that Primitivo and Zinfandel (America!) are the same grape...

In the glass, the Grande Lacrima di San Marzano flatters the viewer with an intense ruby red color and bright reflections. The aroma of overripe red fruit, barrel cherries and opulent summer lilies transports the connoisseur into the emotional world of a sultry summer evening. On the tip of the tongue, the Grande Lacrima di San Marzano appears extremely juicy and fleshy - a strong, inspiring performance. A large body spreads out in the mouth, reminiscent of red cherries and an orchard in late summer before the harvest. Subtle vanilla and wood notes with present but soft tannins surprise the palate. It finishes like a mighty, broad river with its long-lasting aftertaste - befitting a rich, heavy wine of the upper class.

Drink this full-bodied wine with spicy dishes: A strong sauce with chili or meat, sausage, grilled meats - but especially game and mature cheese. The bouquet comes into its own particularly well in a balloon glass.
