Nikà Rosso Calabria Calabria IGT 2021 Rotwein 75 cl / 14 % Italien
The energy of Calabria is concentrated both in the wine and in the territory of Pellaro: the power of the wind, the warmth of the inhabitants, the taste of the sea and the strength of the sun. A wine that has been known since ancient times:
This red wine with an intimately southern character has an intense color that fades into purple. Its fragrance is intoxicating with hints of plums, cherries and red fruits. In the mouth, it is mineral, full-bodied and velvety, with a long and warm persistence. The art of reflecting the unmistakable nature of the region is the ambition of the iGreco winery and its family.
iGreco
Seven children inherited the iGreco wine and olive estate from their father Tommaso Greco. The still young winery is very dynamic and modern. Nevertheless, great importance is still attached to tradition and culture, with a constant striving to improve quality. Today, as in the past, the wine and olive oil are intended to tell the story of the land. The products are as full of character and independent as the region of Calabria.
The winery is located in the former “Magna Greca”, the Greek empire in what is now Italy. In 510 BC there was a showdown between two important city states. According to legend, up to 100,000 Crotonians, led by the Olympic athlete Milon, clashed against the Sybarites, who outnumbered them three to one, at the river Nikà.
The fierce battle lasted 90 days until the victory went to Croton despite their numerical inferiority. According to the Greek historian Krotos, it was Nikà, the goddess of victory, who appeared to the defeated Crotonians and fought alongside them for the favor of victory, thus helping the Greek city-state to win. The river has borne the name of the goddess ever since. That is why the vineyard still bears this name today. NIKA!
