Tosone NERO D'AVOLA Schöppli Sicilia DOC Invecchiato in barrique box 6 x 37.5 cl / 14.5 % Italy
A fruity, balanced garnet red wine with a bit of violet hue and a very powerful, versatile bouquet of blackberries, red currants, some fig, vanilla and cinnamon. The palate shows juicy tannins and a full, soft and harmonious structure, crowned by a persistent finish.
Whoever enjoys Tosone can not escape the Sicilian attitude to life and brightest colors of Sicily: The yellow of saffron, lemons and the scorching sun, the red of tomatoes and blood oranges, the blue of the sky and the sea, the green of the famous artichokes from Ramacca - this is Sicily. Italy's largest wine region is also an island of contrasts in terms of landscape: lush and barren, splendid and run-down, hot and cool - that's how versatile Tosone's home is. The wines of Tosone are also a harmony of contrasts. Elegant without being obtrusive, full and aromatic, Tosone offers many small revelations. This has also been recognized by the renowned wine critic Luca Maroni with extraordinary awards. Sicily, with the largest wine-growing area in Italy, is located off the tip of the Italian boot; climate - intense summer heat and little rainfall, with an African influence in the south - and geography - mountainous terrain with poor soils - predestine the island for viticulture. This knows how to use the advantages of nature: Slopes with excellent exposure, plenty of sunlight, favorable altitudes with significant temperature differences between day and night, and a whole range of characterful native grape varieties. The soils vary according to the sub-region of the island: in the west, very lean soils of volcanic origin dominate. No wonder, then, that the most sought-after sites for intense, deep-dark and fruity wines are on the slopes of Mount Etna. In other regions, sandy soils with high iron content are found. Combined with an underlying layer of limestone, they gave the wines fresh mineral notes.
