The Chimay Blue Grande Reserve is a Belgian Trappist beer. The beer must be brewed in a monastery in order to carry the label Trappist beer. In addition to the Chimay beers, only 7 other beers worldwide may call themselves Trappist beer. Already since 1862 brewed in the monastery Notre Dame de Scourmont in the Belgian community Chimay beers. Initially, only the Chimay beer was brewed with the red label, later the Chimay Blue was added. The beer was initially intended as a Christmas beer but due to the great success, it is now brewed all year round. It is the strongest of Chimay beers and is therefore suitable for long storage. The brewing year of the beer is on the front of the label. Especially the Chimay Blue Grande Resere and the other 2 Chimay beers, the second fermentation in the bottle, which develops the beer a very unique flavor with a complex taste. Who fills the beer in the glass first sees the dark caramel-like color of Chimay. The flavors of spicy and roasted malt can be tasted while enjoying the Chimay Blue. Overall, the Chimay has a strong but sweet taste, which is also reminiscent of caramel and that is exactly the mark of this beer. The proceeds from the sale of the Chimay beer to the Notre Dame de Scourmont monastery are used to promote social projects.
