Birra Messina Cristalli di Sale is a mild beer with aromatic highlights due to a pinch of sea salt, based on a lager from Italian Sicily.

History and production of Birra Messina Cristalli di Sale beer
Originally founded in 1908 after the devastating earthquake by the Faranda family with the name "Birra Trinacria", the brewery emerges and is taken over in 1923 by the Lo Presti family in the Sicilian city of Messina and later changed to the name Messina. The beers of Messina Brewery are the beers of Sicily and spread to Calabria. In 1988 the Messina plant was taken over by Dreher a brand of the Heineken Group. The beer production was moved from Sicily to Puglia, keeping the historical label.

In 2013, after the brewery closed, 15 former employees opened a new small brewery and produce "Birro dello Stretto" and "Birra DOC". In 2019, Birra Messina Cristalli die Sale is launched in cooperation between Heineken and the Messina Brewery Cooperative in Sicily. In this process, the cooperative produces the maximum quantity for the capacity of the brewery and the rest is produced in Massafra. In this process, according to the recipe of the Sicilian brewmaster, a small amount of Trapani sea salt crystals are added to the unfiltered beer to soften and round the taste and enliven it for floral and fruity aromas. The design and label go back to the Sicilian Baroque decoration in the typical colors and shapes of majolica (ceramics) of Sicily.
